One of the primary goals of the Austin Java Users Group is to provide an environment where technical people can share ideas without requiring formal membership or dues. This has been made possible through the generous contributions of the sponsors on this page. This format has been received very well. The group now has hundreds of members and the monthly meetings are very well attended.
As you can imagine, coordinating and running the events takes time and money. Our hope is that we can spread this across several group sponsors so that no one company has all of the burden or control of the JUG. If this is done successfully, we should be able to provide a fulfilling environment at no cost to the individual members.
This is what is required of a sponsor. The sponsor is primarily responsible for lining up a speaker and providing volunteers to assist with coordinating the event. Sponsors will be provided with help from the AustinJUG oversight group to schedule the facility and provide refreshments. To pay for all this, the sponsor will be asked to contribute $1000. This fee covers not only the event that evening but some money is set aside for a big event a couple times a year as well as costs for keeping the web site and email running. For hosting an event a sponsor will of course be able to tout their products and services at the meeting. They will also be listed on the AustinJUG web site for a year.
