Java Technology Community Development: Peabody and Glassfish at java.net
by Sridhar Reddy, Technology Evangelist with Sun's Advanced Engineering Group

Project Peabody is an initiative to provide a more collaborative development environment for future generations of the Java 2 Platform, Standard Edition (J2SE).

Project Glassfish aims to drive innovation in the J2EE/application server space, to improve developer access to J2EE sources and increase transparency in J2EE development. It is the response to Java developers who want access to the source code and want to contribute to the development of Sun.s next generation application server.

Extending the NetBeans IDE
by Dave Havrda, Sun Microsystems

The NetBeans IDE is built on a modular framework called the NetBeans Platform. This framework makes it easy to extend the IDE (or even write non-IDE applications) with new functionality. In the upcoming version 5.0 of the IDE significant new features have been added to make creating these extensions easier. Wizards are provided that create the necessary classes and metadata files, etc. This presentation includes a demo of some of those new 5.0 features and then shows a "real world" example that is currently under development.
